The Ponemon Institute surveyed 692 IT and IT security professionals and found that 47% of the participants said their companies were breached in the past two years. The survey also revealed that 65% of respondents believe threat intelligence could have prevented or minimized the impact of a breach. Respondents also said they used free sources of threat intelligence, but had no way to prioritize those threats and 39% said they had no confidence in them at all. Tim Erlin, director of IT security and risk Management at Tripwire have the following comments on it.

“The fact that free sources of threat intelligence are the most commonly used is telling. Organizations don’t yet place a high enough value on threat intelligence to budget in alignment with the existing costs of commercial sources. Threat intelligence, free or commercial, is only useful when an organization can take action on what they receive. While the threat intelligence vendors have been growing in maturity, organizations simply haven’t kept pace with making the data actionable.”[/su_note][su_box title=”About Tripwire” style=”noise” box_color=”#336588″]Tripwire logoTripwire is a leading provider of advanced threat, security and compliance solutions that enable enterprises, service providers and government agencies to confidently detect, prevent and respond to cybersecurity threats.
