As Netflix’s documentary The Tinder Swindler goes viral, awareness of romance fraud is at a high this Valentines’ Day. Following unacceptable victim-blaming online, it’s an opportune time for dating app creators to show their support for genuine, honest daters. They can do this by advancing their existing commitments to wipe fraud from their platforms for good.

New research from ID R&D gives hope that catfishing could die out. It tested humans and machines by presenting them with the most common spoofing techniques - printed photos, videos, digital images, and 2D or 3D masks. The findings revealed that computers are fool-proof at spotting spoofed selfies. They are also 10x faster, making them indispensable companions to identity verification processes.

With stronger verification processes in place, app creators can save time catching fraudsters, and increase accuracy, by leaving the job to AI and technology. In turn, app creators can focus their efforts on even better ways for daters to find real love.
