Driverless cars will soon be on our roads, whether we want them or not. In response to the discussion of whether we want these vehicles on our roads or not, David Emm, Principal Security Researcher at Kaspersky Lab UK commented below.

David Emm, Principal Security Researcher at Kaspersky Lab UK:

“It is only a matter of time until driverless cars are on our roads, and part of our everyday lives. While people may be quick to adopt this technology, they need to be aware of the safety concerns that autonomous vehicles present. Historically, driving has always been an aspect of life with human control at its core. The idea of ‘switching off’ while a car transports us presents a worrying idea, especially given the number of things that could go wrong in a driverless car, and the potential impacts that these failures could have on both the driver and pedestrians. The fatality in Arizona has further added to these apprehensions, when a self-driving Uber hit a pedestrian. Technology continues to enhance our lives in so many ways, and people are quick to adopt technology where it brings tangible benefits. However, as a society we should consider all of the safety grey areas before adopting a widespread technology that poses such danger.”
