Following the news that the European Commision is looking to push for backdoors access for apps in June according to EU Justice Commissioner Vera Jourova. Cesare Garlati, Chief Security Strategist at prpl Foundation commented below.
Cesare Garlati, Chief Security Strategist at prpl Foundation:
“I sincerely hope this will not happen because it is simply not going to work and will certainly create more harm than good. Hiding secrets/backdoors is a terrible idea. The concept has never worked in the past and the risk of losing control is simply too high – see DVD encryption schema in the past, the more recent TSA master lock debacle or the very recent Vault 7 / CIA fiasco. Besides, law enforcement agencies already have both technical tools and legal frameworks to “monitor” personal communications. At the same time users already have plenty of options to avoid/fool this measures.”
