Amnesty International helps oppressed people who are victimized and vulnerable to a cascade of human rights abuses, and now are suffering from targeted cyber campaigns as well. The Pegasus spyware has been used by those oppressive governments, and fear from being targeted that way makes these people search for protection, only to fall prey to the Sarwent malware on their desktops instead.

Instead, everyone should make sure they have the latest operating system updates on their phones, rebooting them often or at least once a day, only downloading applications from the official app stores, and running anti-malware software from reputable providers there. Desktops need active AV/anti-malware protection as well. VPNs, end-to-end encrypted communication platforms, and using devices with little personal data on them to communicate may also help.
