Any increase in cybercriminal activity is a concern; however, the majority of methods used in the attacks seen in the last few weeks have all used traditional methods. Phishing continues to be the favourite tool for criminals. While the inability to resolve this risk can be frustrating for security leaders, the positive is that basic cyber hygiene remains the most effective defense.

For security teams, it’s critical that they have visibility of the security state and characteristics for all devices being connected to the corporate network. With many employees now working remotely, this includes home routers, personal laptops or any other devices used to access corporate data. After identifying the expanded new corporate perimeter, security teams must identify and prioritise high-risk vulnerabilities for mitigation. This avoids wasting time on low-level risks and helps support good cyber hygiene which is the best defense against phishing attacks.
