As reported by Vice, WonderHero, a cryptocurrency-based play-to-earn game, announced on Thursday that it was suspending all services after the price of its token crashed dramatically after a hacker was able to mint the game’s token and cash out for around $300,000.

In an official announcement, WonderHero confirmed that “there was an attack on our cross-chain bridging withdrawal,” and that “ the attackers managed to get the signature and minted 80M $WND,” referring to the game’s cryptocurrency.

Unfortunately, this pattern in crypto heists is beginning to sound like a broken record and customer confidence is taking a serious blow. This seemingly never ending cycle of attacks is making a dent in the trust built over the years. As cybercriminals shift to include these types of hacks in their repertoire, it is not just ransomware that we are now seeing on a daily basis. Cryptocurrency based companies must do all they can to ensure all stakeholders are protected or the future will not look so bright. Customers must always protect their private keys and never give them out, however convincing an email or platform looks.
