Marriott Hotels has been the victim of a third data breach in four years, according to reports.
It is clear that today’s businesses are way off the mark when it comes to responsible resilience against cyber threats – especially in preventing repeat attacks.
“Any business’ first significant cyber attack should be its last. As soon as they’ve called in the professionals to ensure the attacker’s route in is identified, the threat contained, and any data loss reported, the same threat should never happen again.
“Too many organisations close the doors without paying attention to the fact that the windows are still open. If they spot a chance, attackers will strike again – often immediately – and celebrate the bonus profits.
“Hindsight is a tough pill to swallow, but could just save the business from a much worse future attack. After an attack, patch systems, delete rogue user accounts, upgrade operating systems, and adopt the high-tech cyber security tech available to all businesses today to protect every endpoint.
“Crucially, communicate across the business. Phishing emails and stolen passwords still amount to a huge proportion of today’s attack methods. If they’re left uncared for, organisations become prime targets of repeat attacks by gleeful cyber criminals.”
