Cloud Customers Are Not Getting What They Pay For, Study Says

Cloud customers expect a certain level of service when they sign on to agreements. But a lot of the time, cloud services aren’t delivered as expected, and there isn’t even a way to verify that cloud services are performing as they should.

That’s the key takeaway from a new study (PDF) just released by a team of researchers from academia and the vendor community, which concludes that “cloud consumers are still lacking in tools to verify that these services work as expected.”  The report’s co-authors, which include Sara Bouchenak of the University of Grenoble, Gregory Chockler of IBM Research, and Alexander Shraer of Google, sought to identify gaps in cloud technologies, particularly in the areas of functional correctness, service availability, reliability, performance and security guarantees.
