Data security remains top priority for public sector

Providers and analysts claim confusion reigns supreme, but government bodies beg to differ

Public sector cloud adoption is not being hampered by unfamiliarity with the technology, but by the fact it has “completely broken all the business models [people] are used to”.

So claimed Joe Dignan, chief analyst, European public sector, Ovum, as he introduced the How to protect sensitive data in the most sensitive of clouds panel discussion today at Cloud World Forum 2013.

However, he added that in doing so, cloud had broken down barriers in public sector IT procurement, which has been accelerated by the G-Cloud.

Mark Thomas, solutions architect at Infrastructure-as-a-Service provider (IaaS) Databarracks and the only service provider representative on the panel added that this had led to confusion within public sector bodies.
