Clothing and jewelry embedded with microprocessors are a growing fad. The idea is that we’ll soon do our computing right from our apparel. So far most of the applications have been around health and basic computing needs but Tuesday at the SF MusicTech Summit developers showed how to bring the wave of wearable technologies to music.
Tyler Freeman demoed his Drumpants, where hitting different parts of his pants produced the various sounds of a standard drum kit. The device works with six removable and programmable pads — capable of multitude of sounds, not just pieces of a drum kit — that fit inside your clothing (You could create a “drum jacket”). The sounds output to a computer, or if you want to jam on the go, you can hook a speaker to your belt.
