At Black Hat, ForeScout Technologies announced new ControlFabric integrations with Rapid7 Nexpose and ThreatStream. ControlFabric is a vendor agnostic technology that enables disparate IT security systems to integrate into the ForeScout CounterAct network access control – a real-time security platform that delivers visibility, intelligence and automated control for devices, users, systems and applications attempting to connect to or are on an enterprise network – to increase security intelligence, gain viability to all network connected devices, and enable automated responses.

Rapid7 Nexpose vulnerability management analyzes vulnerabilities, controls and configurations, and determines compliance with security best practices and external regulations such as PCI, HIPAA, etc. Its planned integration with ForeScout will enable IT organizations to continuously mitigate security exposures by improving the timeliness of risk posture information and automating remediation.

ThreatStream OPTIC is the first platform of its kind – a community-vetted cyber intelligence platform for enterprises and government agencies, which aggregates and analyzes indicators-of-compromise (IOC). Once a new IOC is discovered, OPTIC categorizes it, and ranks it for severity and relevance using data analytics to identify relationships with known threats. The planned integration would enable CounterACT to obtain global threat intelligence from ThreatStream and then leverage that information with network security intelligence to reduce the mean time to identify threats and enable a real-time, policy-based mechanism to mitigate cyberattacks arising from suspicious endpoints.

Rapid7 and ThreatStream join dozens of other security leaders that have joined the ConfrollFabric ecosystem, including FireEye, Splunk, McAfee ePO and many others. Frank Dickson, industry principal, Network Security, at Frost & Sullivan, sees that this trend will help make IT security teams more responsive when faced with new cyberthreats.

“In the past, network security was a kludged collection of security appliances that were ‘bolted’ together sequentially in some cases. Although individual security appliances were optimized, network security as a system was not in terms of security efficacy, management oversight, and intervention required on the part of security professionals,” said Frank Dickson, industry principal, Network Security, at Frost & Sullivan. “Today’s network security reality is significantly different; the emphasis has dramatically shifted toward the integration and automation of previously disparate security and access technologies, resulting in improved security postures for organization and a reduction in the intervention required by security professionals.”
