New Features Include Multi-factor Authentication Support for Apple Watch, Enterprise Grade Identity as a Service and Comprehensive Web Access Management and API Security Solution

Ping Identity® unveiled the Identity Defined Security Platform at the Cloud Identity Summit, which meets rising demand for an enterprise IT security solution with identity as its core. The company also announced major new product updates to support its vision for Identity Defined Security and an enhanced partner programme. The new platform ensures that trusted employees, partners and customers can seamlessly access applications using any trusted device, enabling them to work productively without sacrificing security.

A decade ago, as cloud and mobile adoption increased, Ping Identity led the industry with the launch of the industry’s first federated identity solution that connected once disparate applications to streamline experiences for anyone within a company’s ecosystem — from employees to partners and customers. As the leader driving the federated identity movement, Ping Identity adopted industry standards that now define the market. As global enterprises became more cloud connected and mobile, Ping Identity once again led the industry by expanding its capabilities with multi-factor authentication and access control. Today’s announcement marks another milestone as Ping Identity introduces a solution that solves the complex enterprise challenges imposed by cloud, API and mobile trends for workforce, customer and partner identity security.

“The borderless digital world, propelled by the shift toward cloud, mobile and the Internet of Things, has rendered traditional security solutions less relevant and less effective,” said Andre Durand, CEO, Ping Identity. “By putting identity at the centre of IT security, our new platform enables organisations to provide better security and seamless access to applications with continuous evaluation of authentication and authorisation factors. Our vision of Identity Defined Security provides the steel thread across existing and emerging security technologies, allowing users to securely navigate across borders.”

Ping Identity’s Defined Security platform is uniquely built for enterprises and is designed around six principles that meet modern enterprise security complexities and scale to address future challenges. The principles include:

  • All Identities – Design for employee, customer and partner use cases
  • Federated Architecture – Assume resources are outside your network perimeter
  • Build on Standards – Improve interoperability, speed integration and prevent vendor lock-in
  • Web, Mobile and API – Secure all resource types including future IoT resources
  • Internet Scale – Build for millions of users by focusing on automation
  • Flexible Deployment – Deploy where necessary, cloud, data-centre or hybrid

According to Forrester, “as firms exploit digital technologies both to create new sources of value for customers and to increase their operational agility, identity and access management (IAM) requires far more than just provisioning employees with corporate resources and enforcing access… IAM, done correctly, can protect customers’ privacy, save the enterprise millions in fraud costs, counter threats from malicious insiders, and thwart sophisticated cyber attacks—without hurting employee and partner productivity, business agility or customer experience.”

“We’re constantly evaluating how we can better serve our employees, partners and customers through cloud and mobile apps and API integrations,” Ranjan Jain, enterprise IT architect, Cisco Systems Inc. “By putting identity at the centre of our security strategy, we’re confident that the experience we are going provide to our users is going to be seamless and inherently secure for our not only our current needs but for the upcoming IoE use cases.”

To support this vision of Identity Defined Security, Ping Identity is announcing new features to its product line. Highlights include:

  • Advanced multi-factor authentication capabilities: PingID, the cloud-based multi-factor authentication solution from Ping Identity, now supports several new use cases to manage all identities:
  1. Support for Apple Watch as a second factor authentication tool, enabling users to approve login requests and generate passcodes from their Apple Watch without ever touching their phones
  2. Secures VPN access to corporate networks, providing seamless access for employees looking to access sensitive business data outside the office
  3. Includes fingerprint readers for supported Apple and Samsung phones, allowing end users to simply scan their finger to authenticate
  4. Supports YubiKey, enabling people to use the USB token as an additional factor if they cannot use their phones
  • Improved access management and API security: Organisations are looking to centralise and secure the APIs they expose to their customers and partners. The updates to PingAccess enable administrators to define and enforce policy controls for web access management and API security in a single dashboard. By giving admins more control, they can ensure they are meeting service level agreements and operating at Internet scale.
  • Enterprise-grade IDaaS integration: This update enables administrators to quickly integrate PingOne, Ping Identity’s cloud-based IDaaS and single sign-on solution, with federated identity solution PingFederate. It also includes self-service administration and configuration of federated identities, allowing enterprises to quickly integrate their cloud-based SSO solutions with existing on-premises identity stores, rapidly improving deployment speed and eliminating one of the biggest hurdles enterprise service providers face in scaling standards-based connections to their partners.

This news comes on the heels of significant momentum for Ping Identity. The company raised $35 million in funding in September 2014, bringing the total amount raised to $110 million since its founding in 2002. In the first quarter of 2015, the company reported 40 percent year-over-year growth in annual recurring revenue, nearly doubled its subscription license revenue during the same period and saw a significant lift in enterprise customer adoption across industries for its award-winning identity security solutions. Ping Identity now counts 25 percent of the Fortune 500 among its customer base, including global brands such as Boeing, Disney, GE, Starbucks and TIAA-CREF.
