Several interesting trends are emerging in the cybersecurity landscape, particularly the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI)-driven malware, as well as the ongoing dominance of ransomware threats.
Threat actors have started using GenAI as part of their attack infrastructure, which illustrates the ongoing evolution of cyber-attack tactics.
AI-driven malware aside, ransomware continues to dominate, with RansomHub maintaining its top spot among ransomware groups. Check Point’s VP of Research, Maya Horowitz, says: “The rise of generative AI in cybercrime is a clear signal that organizations must invest in proactive security strategies to stay ahead of these evolving threats.”
It’s also clear that malefactors are leveraging all available technologies to enhance their operations, making it essential for entities to take a forward-looking approach to cybersecurity, including advanced prevention methods and comprehensive training for their teams.
These findings highlight the persistent threats posed by these malicious entities in the evolving cybersecurity landscape.
The key findings:
- FakeUpdates is the most prevalent malware this month, impacting 7% of worldwide organizations. It is followed by Androxgh0st , which has a global impact of 6%, and Formbook , which has a global impact of 4%.
- This month, Joker is in first place in the most prevalent mobile malware, followed by Anubis and Haddad.
- In terms of the top-attacked industries globally, this monthEducation and Research remained number one, followed by Government and Military, and Healthcare.
- Based on insights from ransomware “shame sites” run by double-extortion ransomware groups that posted victim information, RansomHub is the most prevalent ransomware group this month, responsible for 17% of the published attacks, followed by Play with 10% and Qilin with 5%.
