Cloud security: BSI to team with CSA for new certification

is821

The Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) is addressing cloud customer concerns about data security by tying up with the British Standards Institute (BSI).

The CSA is set to expand its STAR programme, this autumn, by including a new formal certification process.

The announcement follows the release of a survey by the CSA that found 56 per cent of non-US companies would be less likely to opt for a US cloud provider, while 10 per cent had already cancelled a contract with a US firm.

Jim Reavis, executive director for the CSA, said he had been moderately surprised at the strength of feeling against US providers, particularly as this was a survey of CSA members and he expected them to be well-informed on security matters. However, he added “because of the dominance of the US cloud providers, I wasn’t totally surprised by the reaction.”
