It’s important to protect ourselves, our identity and also our files. So what can we do with sensitive data once we are done with it? The recycle bin will delete the links you have to your data, but the file will still remain on your computer – it is just simply placed in a new directory.

So, our friends at StudyWeb have come up with multiple options available that will make sure your files are deleted forever. Most of the software is free and easy to use, but make sure you do your own research too so that you find the appropriate software for your needs.

For PC users the suggested options are FileShredder, FreeRaser & Eraser. Each of the software come with advice on how to install and use the software properly and all come with their own unique uses. For example, FreeRaser can be installed on an USB drive for convenience in deleting files off multiple devices.

For Mac users, the options available are a lot easier and simple. Deleting the files via the ‘secure empty trash’ and ‘disk utility’ options will do the job – up to the standards of the US department of defence, apparently.

It’s important to know what options are out there and what is available to you to help protect your private information.
