It may seem strange to say, but there are probably a lot of people involved in IT security who long for the “good old days” when the threats were limited to computer viruses getting downloaded through email and hackers trying to break through a firewall. It’s not that it was any picnic, but at least you had complete control over the devices that were accessing the network and the environment that contained the network. It was like defending a well-fortified castle from invaders.
While those threats are still out there, today the job of IT security has been made infinitely more difficult by the advent of three new, more difficult to defend challenges:
