“We have heard for a very long time now that our weakest link in security is the user, is that really true? This survey seems to point to that conclusion but the good news is they don’t have to be. With the right education, awareness and cooperation we could turn our staff and users into our strongest asset. I know a lot of you may thinking really? But yes really.
Security is often used like a weapon, users are told to do something and expect to hear instructions without knowledge as to why they should or how it can affect what they do. In this industry knowledge really is king, we are very capable of turning this around and utilising our current staff and arming them to be the weapon against cybercrime. Software is the first line of defence, it will stop a good amount of our day-to-day threats but these days it’s not enough. Making sure staff and users are aware of the current threat attacks, what they can do to stop them and how much of an integral part of the whole company’s security they can be, could just be the difference between a successful attack or not.”
