Global research has revealed the scale and quantity of DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks increased significantly across 2018 with attacks reaching 400Gbps in size or larger.
EfficientIP secures brands including Netflix, IKEA and the London Stock Exchange against exactly these types of attacks.
Specialists in network security with expert knowledge in DDoS attacks, its latest Global DNS Threat Report shows:
- Although attacks 400Gbps or larger now occur, they only represent 5% of attacks. The majority are between 5 and 10Gbps. Not as powerful but still enough to cause significant damage.
- The average attack has increased 57% in cost from $455,000 in 2017 to $715,000 in 2018.
- 23% businesses suffer brand damage and 22% lose sensitive customer information
Ronan David, VP of Business Development at EfficientIP:
“Distributed Denial of Service attacks (DDoS) are one of the most well-known forms of using DNS, Domain Name Systems, to mount an attack on a network. This kind of attack can quickly bring down a website and stop anyone using it, particularly worrying for any business that operates mostly or entirely online as this potentially eliminates the only way for customers to do business with them.
We know from our Global DNS Threat Survey Report that 33% of business saw their website compromised and 22% lost business as the result of a DNS-based attack. This is no longer a threat firms can afford to ignore with the average attack costing $715,000 and that’s before loss of reputational equity and other secondary costs are factored in.”
