FireEye security experts discovered a new series of cyber attacks conducted by Chinese hackers targeted the US media in 2012, the attackers have improved the malware used in previous campaign against the New York Times.
A new series of cyber attacks conducted by Chinese hackers targeted the US media, it seems that the responsible is the same group that hit New York Times’ network late 2012, this time using improved versions of malware.
In 2012 the attacks occurred in concomitance with the investigation of the journal, published on Oct. 25th, that revealed that the relatives of Wen Jiabao, China’s prime minister, had accumulated a fortune worth several billion dollars through business dealings. On Oct. 25th the AT&T informed The Times journal of suspect activities related ongoing attacks believed to have been perpetrated by the Chinese military.
