In the last few years attacks on critical infrastructure have been on the rise, accented by high profile cases like the attacks on the Ukrainian power grid, Flame, Stuxnet and most recently Triton. Edgard Capdevielle, CEO at Nozomi Networks commented below on the future of attacks on ICS.

Edgard Capdevielle, CEO at Nozomi Networks:

“Nation-state players, organised crime, individual hackers and disgruntled employees are lining up to take their best shots at critical infrastructure in the coming year. These groups and individuals are developing malware attacks using OT device software, and PLC software, to add to the sea of Windows-dependent attacks. This evolving threat landscape is pushing artificial intelligence (AI) into mainstream adoption so, critical infrastructure operators can radically automate threat detection and mitigation. This will help technical teams become more productive in the wake of the shortage in skilled workers. Also moving in to help, will be the proliferation of more professional service offerings that are moving beyond risk assessments to become more full service.”
