Recent Ponemon Institute research has shown that DDoS attacks are wreaking havoc on data centres. Commenting on the research, Jag Bains, CTO of DOSarrest said:
“DDoS attacks will continue to increase on data centres through 2014. This is problematic as often operators and network administrators’ main priorities, defined by internal business decisions, are to ensure the network remains available in a multi- tenant environment, servicing potentially hundreds- if not thousands- of customers. As such, the typical monitoring strategies and processes in place are developed with this goal in mind and are unrefined to deal with the complexity and aggressiveness a DDoS attack can pose.
Hosting customers, however, should pay close attention to this trend as it clearly shows the lack of ability inside a data centre to deal with a DDoS attack, and why the cloud DOoS protection sector has grown dramatically. And while many hosting companies’ marketing outfits suggest that they have “bullet proof” platforms, backed with a number of big iron vendor logos on their website, they all struggle to identify and expedite solutions. Hosting customers should research and identify a cloud DDoS provider that they can introduce into their overall IT solutions, and not hinge their uptime on the data centre operations of their hosting provider, which have failed up to this point, and will continue to do so in the future.”
