NFV and SDN-enabled solution provides continuous protection against evolving threats and consistent experience for mobile data users
Hod Hasharon, Israel – Allot Communications Ltd. (NASDAQ, TASE: ALLT), a leading global supplier of service optimization and revenue generation solutions for fixed and mobile broadband operators and cloud providers, and Check Point Software Technologies, announced collaboration to demonstrate a virtual mobile Security-as-a-Service (SECaaS) solution for bringing cutting-edge security services to mobile networks leveraging network functions virtualization (NFV) and software-defined networking (SDN). The proof of concept demonstration (PoC) took place in October during the Layer 123 SDN & OpenFlow World Congress in Düsseldorf, Germany.
In recent years, mobile devices have not only been one of the largest accelerators of business, but also presented the largest threat to their security. Six percent of mobile users visit “malware-risky” websites, according to a recent Allot MobileTrends report. By harnessing the power of NFV and SDN, mobile operators can deliver a secure broadband experience to businesses and consumers, while maintaining a consistent Internet experience for mobile users.
The joint solution that was demonstrate consists of Allot’s Service Gateway – Virtual Edition with Check Point’s Security Gateway Virtual Edition. Allot provided a virtual network function (VNF) with pre-integrated services and a framework connected to the cloud infrastructure, orchestration, OSS and BSS platforms. Check Point provided a VNF protecting dynamic virtualized environments from internal and external threats by securing virtual machines and applications with the full range of Check Point Software Blades. Software Defined Networking (SDN), which enables the separation of the control plane and data plane, is used to diminish deployment challenges in NFV such as service consistency and reliability.
“The cyber threat landscape is changing rapidly,” said Alon Kantor, VP of Business Development at Check Point. “This integration enables advanced, industry-leading security to be delivered to NFV customers, so they can enjoy the same level of protection for their virtual environments as they do for their physical ones.”
“Our live demonstration showed how Allot and Check Point can provide a consistent and secure user experience in a mobile environment,” said Jay Klein, CTO at Allot Communications. “This PoC proves that Allot and Check Point can help network operators improve service delivery and consistency, cut operational costs, reduce time to market and monetize the benefits of NFV and SDN.”
