Following the news about European commissioner’s call, Chris Ross, SVP International at Barracuda commented below.

Chris Ross, SVP International at Barracuda:

“Earlier this week at the CyberSec European Cybersecurity Forum in Poland, Julian King European commissioner for the security union called for increased collaboration in defending against cyber attacks after revealing more than 4,000 ransomware attacks have taken place every day across the EU since 2016.

This comes as no surprise to us. While cyber attackers are developing increasingly sophisticated malware such as ransomware to infect their victims, the same can’t be said of the way they’re getting into organisations. Our own research from earlier this year found 76% of ransomware attacks are still entering via email.

The best way to fight the ransomware epidemic we now find ourselves in is through collaboration. Security experts need to come together to make the landscape safer for everyone. By bringing together the skills and technologies, we can go beyond intelligence sharing and education and actually help repair the damage inflicted upon victims.

One example of this collaboration in action is the No More Ransom website- a collaborative effort set up by a unique coalition of Europol’s European Cybercrime Centre, Dutch Police, Kaspersky and Intel Security, and protected by Barracuda, to help organisations and individuals fight back against cyber crime. Since its creation, No More Ransom’s collaboration efforts have used to decrypt over 28,000 devices and deprive criminals of an estimated 8 million euros in ransom.”
