The government is to establish a new unit to counter “fake news”, David Emm, Principal Researcher at Kaspersky Lab commented below.

“The advent of fake news is very real, and we welcome today’s announcement from the government. The new unit will counter the threat of viruses and other potentially harmful attacks, that can cause significant loss of personal data, all through the click of a fake news story. Cybercriminals are always planning new ways to trick people into clicking fake news stories. A new regulated unit hopefully moves us closer to seeing a decrease in harmful sites and therefore a reduction in cyberbreaches.”
