“The float of the first dedicated cyber security fund in the UK this morning is excellent news for the sector. The strategic importance of cybersecurity for the country is enormous, and a dedicated fund listed on LSE is a step in the right direction. I hope we will see much more activity in the coming months with funds dedicated to early stage companies as it is vital that we are able to call on home-grown expertise and technology rather than importing it from overseas. I hope that the ETFS LSE Cyber Security UCITS fund (ISPY) will be the first of many cyber security focussed funds and that we will see more interest in early stage investment, which is vital to support the next generation of security pioneers.
“UK universities such as Bristol and Cambridge have fantastic research programmes that are cultivating creative new approaches to security, but we still face a challenge in turning this research into viable business models that will help to protect our population and businesses from cyber threats. Funding is key to providing opportunities for innovators who have previously had to relocate to markets like America funding is more readily available.”[/su_note][su_box title=”About Dr. Nithin Thomas” style=”noise” box_color=”#336588″]Nithin Thomas is a technology entrepreneur with expertise in development and commercialisation of technology research, having developed much of the early technology at SQR Systems during his academic career at the University of Bristol.
