The survey, carried out by IT Governance, found that 54% of those interviewed believed that insiders were the biggest threat, in contrast to the 27% who believe that criminals are the greatest threat.

Cyber security threats are becoming a greater concern for businesses after it was revealed that a quarter of all companies have suffered a cyber attack in the last 12 months.

The majority of the companies questioned said their organisation is making IT security a priority, and 58% said that their respective boards of directors are given ‘regular’ updates.

The report also found that half of respondents had been questioned by concerned customers about levels of cyber security in the last year.
