Intermedia, the world’s largest one-stop shop for cloud IT services and business applications, has chosen McAfee to protect its customers and partners from email-based security threats and business continuity risks.

McAfee Labs estimates that between 80-90 per cent of all email traffic is unwanted1 and third-party research revealed that 58 per cent of organisations have been infiltrated by email-based malware2—a threat vector with the primary objective of stealing information. By teaming with McAfee, Intermedia—which also is the world’s largest Microsoft Exchange hoster with more than 700,000 mailboxes —can protect its SMB customers from threats that can disrupt productivity, bring down systems, corrupt company data and fully compromise security and privacy.

Intermedia’s McAfee Email Defense Suite consists of three services:

– McAfee Basic and Advanced Email Protection: McAfee Basic Email Protection eliminates spam and viruses before they reach users’ mailboxes. McAfee Advanced Email Protection adds granular control over protection settings as well as McAfee ClickProtect, to defend users who click malicious URLs.

– McAfee Email Continuity: This add-on service offers redundant email access for peace of mind beyond Intermedia’s 99.999% uptime guarantee.

– McAfee Email Data Loss Prevention: This add-on service filters outgoing email to ensure sensitive information or undetected viruses do not leave users’ outboxes.

These services are available today for all new mailboxes and will be rolled out to all Intermedia mailboxes over the coming months.

“The world has too many stories of email-based viruses bringing down networks or exposing sensitive information,” says Ed Macnair, managing director EMEA at Intermedia. “We’re bringing McAfee into our ecosystem to protect SMB’s productivity and security by shielding our users from email-based threats.”

Intermedia’s channel partners can also take full advantage of Intermedia’s new McAfee service. They can now add world-class protection to their services portfolio—without the integration and management complexities of working with a third-party security provider.

“McAfee knows how critical it is for an SMB to keep their business up and running and protected from email threats,” says Bill Rielly, senior vice president of Small & Medium Business at McAfee. “With Intermedia’s new McAfee Email Defense Suite, we are able to protect more businesses from the threats posed by email.”

Intermedia customers are excited about this new offering as well. “I’m pleased that McAfee is so well integrated that deploying it requires no effort at all,” said Roy Hill, IT Director of Opportune LP Outsourcing, an Intermedia customer that participated in the pilot programme. “And I’m very happy with the level of protection it provides for both inbound and outbound messages.”

Intermedia is committed to offering tools and services to equip its growing user base to compete in rapidly changing markets. Any customer who provisions either the McAfee Email Continuity or Data Loss Protection add-on receives the other at no additional charge.
