The Government must tell the public if it has access to information about New Zealanders it may have received from the United States’ National Security Agency, Green Party Co-leader Dr Russel Norman said today.
The United States National Security Agency (NSA) has been collecting information through Apple, Facebook and Google using Prism, a top-secret system that collects emails, documents, photos and other material for agents to review. Some of this information has been given to countries within the Five Eyes intelligence network that includes the United Kingdom and New Zealand.
“The public of New Zealand need an assurance from the Key Government that it has not been availing itself of information that breaches New Zealanders privacy,” Dr Norman said today.
