The founders of network vulnerability management vendor, RandomStorm, have been named Digital Entrepreneurs of the year in the Business Insider Yorkshire Entrepreneur Awards 2014.

Sponsored by law firm, Mills & Reeve LLP, the Digital Entrepreneur award recognises Yorkshire businesses that have made best use of online and digital technology to grow their businesses during the downturn.

RandomStorm provides security vulnerability scanning and penetration testing services and network security monitoring products. This combination of products and consultancy helps organisations to continuously monitor the security of their information assets, so that they can comply with industry guidelines and data protection regulations. The company is a CESG CHECK security consultancy and certified as both an Approved Scanning Vendor and Qualified Security Assessor by the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council.

Presenting the award at a ceremony at the Royal Armouries in Leeds, where 150 top local business people had gathered, Yorkshire Business Insider magazine editor, Richard Abbott, said, “RandomStorm’s team of talented ethical hackers help companies to test their external security by launching online assaults and then trying to get inside their physical premises to test internal security.”

This is the latest in a series of awards and accolades that RandomStorm has won in 2014. The company has also been nominated for the Pathfinder awards and last month international technology investment banking group, GP Bullhound, ranked RandomStorm 13th out of the top 50 fastest growing technology companies, based on revenue, in the Northern Tech Awards.

The company has also enjoyed national and international recognition. In November 2013, RandomStorm was listed as the 21st fastest growing technology company in the UK in the Deloitte Fast 50. Using the Deloitte formula, the company calculated that its revenue grew by 1062% between 2009 and 2013.

To maintain the company’s rapid growth, the company has recently made a number of senior appointments, including hiring former AppSense founder, Tony Bolland, as Non Executive Director. In January RandomStorm opened its first London office close to its customers in the financial district, followed by the opening of its first Scottish office and the appointment of country manager, David Burnett, to provide a local base to support customers in the oil and gas; hospitality; and call centre industries.

Andrew Mason, Technical Director and co-founder of RandomStorm commented, “Robin and I are delighted to be named Digital Entrepreneurs of the Year. In the face of increased attacks on organisations’ data assets, we have worked hard to deliver a world-class security and compliance service and developed enterprise-class security products to help our customers to continually monitor their security status and maintain compliance with data protection regulations.”
