E-Series SolutionsData security concerns call for a multi-faceted approach to protecting an organisation’s high-value data throughout its entire lifecycle; encryption technology, coupled with E-Series management, provides integrated protection of data at rest

Imation (NYSE:IMN), a global data storage and information security company, announced it has added encryption for data at rest to its Nexsan E-Series™ family of high-density, high-performance and highly reliable data storage solutions. Imation’s Nexsan E-Series solutions with data encryption technology are now available for purchase, providing organisations with added confidence that their data is protected against unauthorised system access, even when drives are redeployed or removed from the data centre entirely.

Imation’s Nexsan E-Series encryption secures data at rest by utilising embedded key management and self-encrypting drives with AES 256 encryption. Since the Nexsan E-Series uses hardware encryption, there is no loss in system performance. Also, with the Nexsan E-Series management interface, the encryption is transparent to the user and the encryption keys are managed by the system.

Organisations can repurpose or retire storage without compromising data protection. Data at rest encryption prevents access to user data in the event that a drive is removed from the system, such as with the retirement of drives, drive relocation, drive repurposing or drive replacement. If drives are to be reused or relocated, sensitive data can be made unreadable in the time it takes to delete the key; after the key is deleted, the drive is immediately made unreadable without the need for long multi-pass overwrite processes.

“Imation is focused on the comprehensive protection of high-value data throughout its entire lifecycle, no matter where it resides,” said Mike Stolz, vice president of marketing and technical support for Imation’s Nexsan solutions. “Adding data encryption technology to our E-Series family of storage solutions is just the latest step we’ve taken to help organisations mitigate emerging risks in IT and ensure the safety and security of their most valuable data.”

Imation’s Nexsan E-Series solutions can be directly attached or networked to workstations and servers. In addition to delivering storage density and efficiency, organisations can now take advantage of E-Series data at rest encryption to add another security measure to a comprehensive data privacy and security strategy. All E-Series systems take the extra step to reduce power and cooling requirements through their multi-level, power-reducing AutoMAID™ capabilities. They also include an easy-to-use management interface that simplifies deployment and management for the resource-constrained IT administrator.

The E-Series family is just one part of Imation’s Nexsan deep portfolio of purpose-built storage solutions, enabling users to deploy the right storage products for the right application.

The other Nexsan product lines are :

  • Imation’s Nexsan Assureon™ is a set of comprehensive secure archive solutions that protect and preserve high-value data.  They also reduce storage cost by offloading and deduplicating data from primary storage that is infrequently used or has aged by policy.
  • Imation’s Nexsan NST™ is a set of flexible hybrid storage appliances that scale to meet mid-sized organisation application and storage needs with unified NAS and SAN access capabilities in a single solution.
