Mac users like to lord it over their Windows-using counterparts about the supposed superiority of their cat-themed operating system when it comes to malware and Web-based attacks. That magical immunity is no longer the case, as several Windows malware tricks have recently shown up on Macs.

Mac OS X in the past benefited from basic economics. The bad guys looked at the numbers and targeted where the larger user base—and the money—happened to be. Even with the growing popularity of Macs, the Windows world is where they make the big bucks.

But! And there is always a but, the bad guys know there is a growing segment of users who have this false sense of security about Macs and are browsing on the Internet without any security software.
