Columbia, MD — 9th January, 2014 –– Tenable Network Security®, Inc., the leader in real-time vulnerability management, today announced Cris Thomas joined the team as Technical Manager. Known for his work as Space Rogue and creating the first security research think tank, L0pht Heavy Industries, and the popular Hacker News Network, Thomas will focus on keeping Tenable and its solutions at the forefront of security innovation.

Thomas is the latest addition to Tenable’s bench of security luminaries who not only bring deep technology knowledge and innovation to the company’s offerings but are recognised advisers to the larger security community. Since its founding in 2002, Tenable CEO and Chief Technology Officer Ron Gula has sought to build a team of leading security experts and communicators to join him and cofounders Renaud Deraison, chief research officer and creator of the Nessus® vulnerability scanner, and Jack Huffard, president and chief operating officer. Tenable’s experts include Marcus Ranum, chief security officer and firewall pioneer; Jack Daniel, technical product manager and Uncommon Sense Security blogger; Paul Asadoorian, product evangelist and founder and CEO of Security Weekly (formerly PaulDotCom); and Jeffrey Man, Tenable’s Payment Card Industry (PCI) expert and former NSA cryptologist.

As part of his responsibilities, Thomas will play an instrumental role in the advancement of Tenable’s real-time vulnerability and threat management platform. Leveraging his unique insight into the information security industry, he will help clients understand how to apply the unique advantages of continuous monitoring to meet compliance and security challenges.

“At Tenable we pride ourselves as being more than just a technology firm,” explained Gula. “We have a special group of security experts at the disposal of our clients that provide intel and counsel far beyond the standard helpdesk mentality. With the addition of Cris to our team we are further strengthening our ability to meet the challenging needs of our clients.”

As a result of his unique background Thomas has been called to testify before the Senate Committee on Governmental Affairs and has been quoted extensively in the media, including News Hour with Jim Lehrer, CNN Nightly News and ABC News Online with Sam Donaldson. Prior to L0pht Heavy Industries and the Hacker News Network he ran The Whacked Mac Archives, which at the time was the largest and most popular Macintosh security site on the Internet. He also worked for Trustwave SpiderLabs, and has spoken at numerous security conferences including Black Hat, DEF CON, ShmooCon, BSides, HOPE and H2K.

“Tenable has moved from a pioneer in vulnerability management to a robust security company that empowers its clients to protect their full range of network assets and connections in an age of mobile devices, BYOD, complex web applications and cloud computing,” said Thomas. “The future is very bright for this company and I look forward to sharing my experiences to contribute to continued successes in delivering new features and functionality for customers.”
