“I’m glad to see a crackdown on this type of shadowy tracking of users. Hopefully, the FTC crackdown will result in improved user privacy. However, developers will always be looking for ways around tracking and data-sharing regulations.

Before using any operating system or app, always check the developer’s privacy statements to ensure that they are at least pledging not to intrusively grab information about you, much less share it with other companies.”

“The FTC is part of the executive branch of the US government, which is led by the President. I have little doubt that the crackdown on illegal use and sharing of personal information came in response to the recent overturn of Roe v. Wade. President Biden is doing what he can within his power to protect the privacy of women considering or seeking abortion services. Although we could have used more protections years ago, it’s now more important than ever to protect the health and location information of women in the United States, which could be otherwise be abused to identify, track, and persecute women who seek abortions.”
