The head of the UK National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) – Ciaran Martin will give a report today that reveals that critical infrastructure such as energy plants, communication channels, media platforms and all other critical infrastructure are being probed for vulnerabilities 24×7. He will also report that there are forces working to undermine the international system. Andrea Carcano, Founder and Chief Product Officer at Nozomi Networks commented below.
Andrea Carcano, Founder and Chief Product Officer at Nozomi Networks:
“Today’s warning from Ciaran Martin reaffirms what many in the security sector have been saying – our critical infrastructure is being targeted by attackers. The fact that it’s been identified as Russian backed is also not a surprise, but limiting the finger pointing to just one national power would be a mistake. From a risk management perspective, those tasked with the protection of our energy plants, communication channels, media platforms and all other critical infrastructure must work on the assumption that it is being probed for vulnerabilities 24 hours of the day, 7 days a week. Who is behind that probing is, to some extent, irrelevant – making sure that they don’t get in or cause harm is what’s vital. It is essential that critical infrastructure operators take steps to increase the visibility into their ICS networks and deploy new innovations that enable early detection of advanced persistent threats, whoever is making them.”
