It’s the middle of the night. You find yourself stranded behind enemy lines with no reliable source of transportation and no way to contact your support to help you out. You may have accomplished your mission and recovered the valuable intelligence that can help to save hundreds, if not thousands of lives, but now you’re stuck and don’t know what to do.

Free Cyber Security Training! Join the revolution today!

Anyone who has seen a James Bond movie can imagine this scene, and most people have probably pictured themselves in 007’s shoes, determining what heroic feat you would perform to save the day. And while this scenario is unlikely to happen to the average citizen, the truth is there may be times when you find yourself without reliable communication. In the day of instant business and worldwide communication, not having it can have consequences both personal and professional. So what’s the solution?

HotSpot and Wi-Fi

The solution is simpler that you might realize, and most of the technology has been in place for years. Localized Wi-Fi areas, whether they be created by a Starbucks or a smartphone acting as a mobile hotspot, have disadvantages. The former demands that you be within a certain range of a wireless router, and the latter requires you to have high-speed data access from a cellular provider. The third, and often best option, doesn’t have any of those restrictions.

The Iridium Go!

If you are a world traveler or an off-the-beaten-path explorer, it is a necessity for you to have a satellite-powered hotspot device like the Iridium Go! from Roadpost. The palm-sized device allows you to have reliable data and voice communication virtually anywhere in the world through the use of satellite technology. It boasts a number of features that can make life easier no matter where you are.

• Military-Grade Construction (MIL-STD 810F) – shock resistant, water resistant, dust proof, and operation at extreme temperatures (14 to 112 Degrees Fahrenheit).

• Smartphone Compatible – Works Apple (iOS 5.1 or later) and Android (2.2.3 or later) and can handle up to five devices simultaneously.

• Battery Life – 3600 mAh providing up to 5.5 hours of talk time or 15.5 hours of standby.

• Accessories – Several kits available, some include chargers, cases, mounts and fixed antennas.

• Convenient Size – Measures in at 4.5” x 3.25” x 1.25” and weighs just 10.75 ounces with the battery.

• Transmission – Operates at 2.4 Ghz in modes b, g, and n and can be accessed at up to 100 feet away.

The hotspot also has a free app for your phone that lets you configure the device and customize the settings to your preference. Whether you are an outdoorsman wanting to send instant video of your spectacular wilderness adventure, a businessman in a remote part of the world, or a top-class secret agent like 007 who needs to transmit vital intelligence back to your superiors, having access to a satellite-based mobile hotspot can make the difference between a great day and disaster.
