In research released today, Barracuda have detailed findings showing that  70% of IT professionals told us they were more concerned about email security now than they were five years ago. Eyal Benishti, CEO & Founder at IRONSCALES commented below.

Eyal Benishti, CEO & Founder at IRONSCALES:

“It is unsurprising to see email security as a looming threat for IT Professionals; we know that phishing is a threat that remains alive and well for organisations. Over the years, phishing attacks have not only increased in frequency, but also in sophistication, and as a result they are becoming more and more difficult for even the trained eye to spot. This makes it more likely that attacks will succeed, and in reality, it only takes one click for an organisation to be staring a cybersecurity nightmare in the face.

With only 10% of lured employees voluntarily taking training without being reminded, organisations must seek other ways to protect their enterprise.

Phishing messages continue to evade even the most sophisticated detection because, all too often, email security focuses on the gateway utilising content filtering and signatures. The failure is evident as, every day, these solutions allow malicious emails to slip past to land in mailboxes. With just 82 seconds between a phishing email being received and the first user interacting with the rogue message speed is essential.  Focus must move down the stack to the recipients inbox, that harnesses both human detection and machine intelligence, to automate and respond at scale to these types of attacks. By examining user communications and meta data to establish a baseline, anomalies in communications are easily spotted and automatically flagged as suspicious, to help people make smarter and quick decisions regarding emails within the mailbox.”
