Although TA428 utilizes six different backdoors to maintain access to compromised systems, the initial attack starts with a single email attachment. Never open links or attachments in unsolicited emails, and you can avoid these attacks. Unfortunately, many people aren’t so cautious.

I’m not sure about China’s motive for these hacks, but given the location of targets so far, it could be related to the war in Ukraine.

As physical wars continue to make the headlines, cyber attacks like these are also on the rise. This means organizations need to both make sure their systems are kept updated and educate employees and executives to warn them against opening attachments or clicking links in emails and messages.
