The Internet of Things pose a variety of dangers to the enterprise that go unseen by network administrators who might not even be aware the devices are on the network according to Akamai. Michael Patterson, CEO at Plixer commented below.
Michael Patterson, CEO at Plixer:
“IoT devices bring a great new attack surface for the bad guys. While the IoT companies that we are supposed to trust gobble up our personal information, the attackers are busy compromising the data that the IoT companies are collecting. Privacy surrounding anything connected to the Internet is gone. Government regulation and laws covering security, authentication, and software updates are absolutely needed. In addition, guidelines should be established for IoT manufacturers pertaining to how the consumer is made aware of personal information that is collected. Regulation should also outline the responsibility for end of life for all IoT devices to ensure they permanently self-shut down.”
