ManageEngine Bolsters Security of Corporate Data, IT Resources at IT-SA 2014

ManageEngine, the real-time IT management company, has announced the launch of Network Defender Plus, its network-based anomaly detection software, as well as key enhancements to the compliance reporting and session management capabilities of its privileged password management software, Password Manager Pro. Together, the ManageEngine announcements help organisations bolster the security of their corporate data and IT resources.

Defending the Network

Network Defender Plus secures enterprise networks and data centres from attacks in real time. Available immediately, the new ManageEngine solution analyzes various flows exported by the router and switches to identify and block unwanted traffic generated from malicious sources. A demo of Network Defender Plus is available at http://demo.networkdefenderplus.com.

While firewalls and intrusion detection systems read packet signatures and monitor perimeter-level traffic, Network Defender Plus uses the Continuous Stream Mining Engine to analyse packet flows, classify intrusions, and combat network security threats in real time. In turn, Network Defender Plus protects against sophisticated attacks such as zero-day intrusions and pattern-based intrusions such as scans, DDoS, botnet, and other attacks.

“With legacy apps such as mail, CRM, and ERP moving to the cloud and being accessed via users’ mobile devices, you can’t lock down the network with exact IP addresses in the firewalls,” said Dev Anand, director of product management at ManageEngine. “As a result, admins keep the network open, and the firewalls become vulnerable to attacks. Network Defender Plus can help admins pinpoint those attacks.”

Pumping up Password Management

The latest enhancements to Password Manager Pro help organisations comply with the access control requirements of ISO/IEC 27001:2013, the internationally-acclaimed standard for information security, as well as closely monitor administrative access and terminate suspicious activities.

“Control A.9 of ISO/IEC 27001:2013 concerns controlling access to IT assets and applications and preventing unauthorised access. It’s the foundation of information security,” said Rajesh Ganesan, director of product management at ManageEngine. “Password Manager Pro helps establish centralised, robust access controls through privileged account management. Organisations looking to obtain ISO 27001:2013 certification can use Password Manager Pro to generate an audit-ready, automated report pertaining to the controls under A.9.”

In addition, Password Manager Pro’s new ‘session shadowing’ feature lets IT administrators closely monitor the privileged sessions on highly-sensitive IT resources. Now, admins can view the sessions in parallel and terminate suspicious activities. Similarly, admins can offer assistance to users while monitoring the users’ activities during troubleshooting sessions.

ManageEngine demonstrated Network Defender Plus and Password Manager Pro, and exhibited the rest of its security portfolio at the IT Security Expo & Congress, Germany, which was held October 7-9, 2014, at Exhibition Centre, Nuremberg.
