Following the news that UK’s cloud industry ranks fourth in the world ratings, Nigel Hawthorn, Data Privacy Expert at Skyhigh Networks, McAfee’s Cloud Business Unit commented below.
Nigel Hawthorn, Data Privacy Expert at McAfee:
“Businesses often view the cloud with apprehension due to security concerns. While this is no surprise given the number of cloud-based data breaches which hit the headlines, this fear is misplaced. Cloud services offer flexibility, scalability, improved productivity and – when correctly managed – greater security. As this study shows, the trend towards cloud shows no signs of slowing down in the UK but it’s important for businesses to recognise that while moving applications, data and workloads to the cloud does create new risks, the cloud can also be the most secure environment for business.
“This research suggests that the UK’s legal and regulatory environment has helped it become one of the major players in the worldwide cloud marketplace. Key regulation like the EU General Data Protection Regulation is certainly a great force for good. The EU GDPR in particular is helping people to realise that an attitude that understands the importance of data protection is a good thing for business. Organisations must embrace the cloud securely to accelerate their business. Implementing technology which provides complete control and real-time visibility over data and user activity in the cloud is key for both GDPR compliance and making the most of the power of cloud to boost productivity.”
