European glass manufacturer automates the time-consuming hunt for cyber attackers and improves security operations

Vectra, the leader in automating the hunt for in-progress cyber attacks inside networks, today announced that Vetropack Group, a leading European manufacturer of packaging glass for the food and beverage industry, selected the Vectra cybersecurity platform to protect its key assets and streamline security operations.

“Network perimeter security alone is not effective at stopping cyber threats,” said Markus Müller-Fehrenbach, Head of IT Infrastructure and Operations at Vetropack Holding. “We needed visibility inside our network to detect and stop cyber attackers fast, before they damage or steal key assets.”

Visibility into attacks

Providing complete visibility inside the network, Vectra provides Vetropack with nonstop automated threat hunting and real-time attacker detection that is powered by artificial intelligence and always-learning behavioural models.

Vectra automatically prioritises the highest-risk threats detected across the Vetropack network, which extends to offices, manufacturing facilities and distribution centres in several European countries. This enables Vetropack to quickly and proactively terminate advancing cyber threats.

Offloads security teams

“We needed to offload our security team, which was spending countless hours manually hunting for threats and investigating security events that led nowhere,” said Müller-Fehrenbach. “Vectra solved this problem by automating the hunt for cyber attackers and instantly prioritising the highest-risk threats.”

“Our security team is now able to focus proactively on other critical areas, such as threat containment, remediation and forensics,” he added.

Improves operational efficiency

Vetropack worked with Zurich-based systems integrator Ontrex AG to accelerate Vectra’s time-to-value. Immediately after its installation, Vectra learned the local and global environment and promptly started to detect active threats inside the network.

“Vectra was implemented very quickly without disrupting the network and required little configuration,” Müller-Fehrenbach explained.

Using artificial intelligence, Vectra automatically assigns risk-severity and certainty scores to detected threats as well as to unique hosts and other key assets that are critical to business operations.

“Vectra automates the entire triage process, from detections to threat and host scores to incident response,” said Müller-Fehrenbach said. “Our security team always knows what is going, where an attack is happening, and the necessary steps to remediate the threat.”

“This has brought several important procedural improvements and structural workflow efficiencies to our security operations.” he noted.

“Human beings alone, no matter how skilled, don’t have the bandwidth to handle the hyper growth in the network attack surface and threat landscape,” said Hitesh Sheth, CEO of Vectra Networks. “Artificial intelligence allows enterprises to augment their security teams to automate detection and response to security incidents. That allows security analysts at companies like Vetropack to remain in control and stop attacks faster.”
