Worry For Hackers As Popular Online Forum Raidforums Goes Down

Popular online hacker platform raidforums.com has been down for weeks, prompting rumours that the site was a legal target of a breach by government authorities. The site is especially popular with lower level or beginner-level cyber criminals and provides tools and techniques for hackers to use. Users attempting to access the site were met with the message: “MyBB has experienced an internal SQL error and cannot continue”. This is not the first time the site has gone offline; raidforums was previously suspended in October 2021 due to “government interference”, but fears from users suggest that this time personal data may have been affected.

As law enforcement agencies begin to change their tactics, they are becoming more adventurous with their approach to cybercrime. Disruption has always been a key technique in operating against threat actors so targeting forums that host a huge amount of illicit communications is a perfect way to start and keep criminals on the move.

This large, international game of ‘whack-a-mole’ never seems to end but the gap between good and bad is slowly starting to reduce in the favour of the police. Although this will keep criminals on their toes, it also has the potential to force criminals to up their game once more and evolve at a quicker pace to evade capture.
