Twitter is joining the ranks of Google and others who are introducing ad blocking capabilities. Twitter now enables users to block ads on mobile webpages opened through their app by allowing its app to take advantage of the ad blocking software built into Apple’s Safari browser. Chris Olson, CEO of The Media Trust commented below.

Chris Olson, CEO at The Media Trust:

Domain Phishing“Twitter’s introduction of ad blocking capability is an expected outcome from continued consumer aversion to poorly formed ads. Excessive tracking, malware and annoying (screen takeover, redirect, shaky) ads fuel the ad block fire. The only effective way to reign in ad block adoption is if all digital advertising supply chain participants—advertiser, technology, media publisher—adopt creative quality standards and actively enforce compliance with their upstream partners.”
